I have to admit that after the awesomeness of the first book in the series, I found this story a bit disappointing. It was fine as far as it went, but I'd expected there to be another deep, hidden meaning. Some eye-opening insight that only a matriarchal, polyamorous culture could provide. Instead, I'm pretty sure the moral of the story is "matriarchal, polyamorous cultures are strange and problematic." Not quite what I expected after the shades of gray in book 1.
