*Received an electronic copy via NetGalley for an honest review.

The cover of DayBlack is what got my attention. After reading the synopsis, I decided to give this a try. The plot was good but I felt like the plot jumps left me feeling a little lost and disconnected. I felt like I had to play a little bit of catch up to figure out what was going on in certain situations. Once I did the story was pretty interesting.

I liked the style of art used and the mostly black and white color scheme. This was good, I just think it could have been better.

'DayBlack #2' with story and art by Keef Cross is a collection of issues 4-6 of the series. I've already reviewed 2 of the volumes, but it was fun to revisit them here.

Merce is a former slave who is now a vampire. He is a tattoo artist in the town of DayBlack where he deals with someone shooting folks in the butt who wear their pants too low. He also has to deal with a loved one who was thought to be dead.

This isn't really a story arc so much as three separate sort of stories. It's also a bit hard to follow along, but the art is really the whole reason to read these. Keef Cross has a completely unique kind of art for a comic book and I really like it. There is some pretty good humor in here too.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Rosarium Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

The dramatic tattoo-style art in this series is so damn cool. It's so evocative and detailed, with a richness that can't be achieved with colors, no matter how dazzling they might be. It's a work of art.

It's also such an awesome and refreshing change to read a comic series populated almost entirely with people of color. Love the clever and meaningful twists and trope-bending that Cross has done both in the vampire genre (which is somehow fresh again here) and with the role of POCs in comics. Not all of it works, but I love the effort and thought.

I found myself sympathizing greatly with Merce the long undead tattoo artist who just wants to get through the rest of this everlasting life. Can't wait to read more.

Merce was a slave who was bitten by a vampire in the cotton fields. He has lived four hundred long years.

He is tired of just getting by and wants some joy back in his life. He had worked in a variety of different jobs and is now employed in DayBlack Georgia as a tattoo artist.
He has his tattoo gun rigged so that it leaves ink in the skin and extracts what Merce needs. He keeps the blood warm in his coffee maker.
Things are getting weird for Merce as he keeps falling asleep on the job, social media could be his downfall when a client threatens to leak that he falls asleep on the job. He knows how to handle it though.

Years ago Merce sponsored one of the "starving children" tv ads and his "son" shows up in Georgia. As a vampire hunter.

I loved this story. A completely new take on the vampires.

It's also told in black, white and red ink because vampires are color blind and that's the only colors they see.

Highly stylized urban vampire gothic. Intriguing. I'm interested to watch this artist develop.

When the tattoo parlour meets that 70's record shop under a cloud of pre-EPA pollution and in walks a vampire and a posse of Mexican wrestlers. All told with a rastafarian woodblock print vibe.

I received this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

First, the artwork in this is fantastic. I also thought that the character and story idea was really inventive. However, a lot of this volume feels like it is just setting things up for future volumes. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Completely unique, engrossing, a visual masterpiece!

I was drawn in from the very start with the images story, and the main character.
