Sin-Eater takes place mainly within a domed city powered by forgotten advanced technology and populated by all kinds of citizens - powerful, homogeneous clans, displaced aboriginals, animal/human hybrids, and AI personalities. The story follows the roguish, complicated character of Jaeger, a half-native sin eater and "finder" - assassin? hunter? gun for hire with a secret society code of ethics? He's handsome but wildly undependable, simultaneously charming and infuriating the other characters, who are rooted in the city while he travels far and wide.

The art is A+. The characters remind me of the Hernandez Bros and Terry Moore, while the scenery echoes Moebius. The plotting is a little loopy, its sometimes difficult to tell where in time scenes are taking place - the story cuts between present day, flashbacks, the day before present day, dream sequences, and inner monologues with almost no transitions. That doesn't irritate me as much as the pseudo-philosophical ramblings of various characters. Its very monologue heavy, and doesn't always advance the plot.

So gloriously weird and imaginative and baroque and sexy!

Recent Reads: Finder Sin-Eater. The first 14 issues of Carla Speed McNeil's aboriginal SF in one volume. Jaeger comes to town, standing between an abused family and their PTSD abuser. Deep, complicated, and beautiful, this is a far future that's an echo of today. Recommended.

Jaeger is a sin-eater, an Aboriginal 'finder' that takes on the sins of others, absolving their guilt. There are multiple convoluted timelines and stories you are trying to follow during this comic. It was hard to follow all the different stories and I honestly don't even know what I just read.
