Completely and unutterably fantastic. I could go on for a long while about how much I love Bryan Davis' writing, his characters, his stories, his creativity, his message, his melding of history and contemporary fantasy, his poetry...but suffice it to say that Dragons In Our Midst and Oracles of Fire are hands-down two of my favorite series of all time, and I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation. Bryan Davis has just about the best handle on character development I've ever seen. The intensity of emotion and spiritual depth to these books blows me away. The Bones of Makaidos was a stunning finish, with the most beautiful, perfect ending I could have hoped for. It made me so happy! FINALLY! I have followed these books for three years and not once did they ever disappoint. This was quite probably my favorite of the entire saga, which is a high compliment to pay considering how much I've loved every book! Incomparably stunning.

In case you happened to stumble on this book by accident and are impressed by its ridiculously good reviews, I just want you to know: the only reason that the numbers are so good is because if someone actually got this far into this godforsaken series, they're deranged and would probably kill someone for Bryan Davis, and he probably thinks that's pretty nifty.

No other sane person gets this far on purpose. Because these are bad books. I know because I have read them, and Davis is a bad writer. The end.

this book is super long. it's 676 pages and it's really two books in one binding. I finished the first part of the book and started the "part two" and what do you know, it's four years later and the teen age characters are now adults. now I call that cheating! you skip a lot and it doesn't even seem right considering in part one they were getting ready for a war that was going to break out SOON but it took four years for it to actually happen and then you've got these other characters that are trapped or kidnapped. they've been in captivity for FOUR years! it is good at keeping your attention, but the rest of it is just kind of bad in my opinion. the guy went a little overboard with all the sacrificial love bit and it ended almost too perfectly. I do not plan on ever reading it again.
