I kept oscillating between liking and disliking this book, but what kept me going is how much I *adore* the writing. It’s so full and immersive. She could write about her grocery list and I’d read it.
But! I also kept being annoyed by the fact that the storylines didn’t get picked up in the subsequent sections, which created little rifts in how well everything fit together. Yes, as the title alludes to, everyone is looking to find a way to paradise in their own ways, but I would have preferred a less fable like feeling and more depth to the characters and more joining of threads. It’s. 3.5 rounded up for me.

I’m not really in the mood to read dystopian novel right now. I’ll probably circle back to the set date.

The last story was so good, but I really didn't care that much about the first two...

I will say ending every book with “to paradise” somewhat detracted from otherwise very good closing lines.
What was interesting in this, as well as motion towards freedom, was how understandings of freedom change - this is most explicitly explored in book 3.
Good, but also I feel like it could have been better
