At its core, A Heart so White is about secrets. Our protagonist Juan is a newlywed and lives in Spain with his wife Luisa but travels frequently in his role as an interpreter. He has family connections in Cuba and also travels there with his wife for their honeymoon. In my opinion, this is very much a character driven novel. We see a lot of exploration of relationships of the romantic variety and the secrets that are shared and kept.

The author writes with long, descriptive sentences. Sentence flowing into sentence resulting in some long paragraphs that tumble from page to page. (making finding a place to bookmark a bit of a challenge. ;) ). This was a book to savor and sit with for a solid block of time and not one that can be read during random free minutes.
