An incredible environmental theatre piece that sheds light on the Argentinian military regime that ruled the county for many years. Puts the audience directly in the story, evoking feelings of white guilt and the negative effects of standing by and watching tragedy take place.

Do I give everything 4 stars?

Guided tours can be harrowing.

I don't think this is the edition I read of Gambaro's play back then, but it will have to do in order to make the record here in GoodReads. I read this in graduate school as well, and I even started working on a paper for a conference about it. The abstract was accepted, but then life happened, and I had to withdraw the proposal. Anyhow, it is one of the most moving pieces of drama I have read, and I can only barely imagine what it would be like to see it performed. Again, as my journal notes are mostly academic, I will leave them out from here. This is definitely one work that I would be willing to revisit. Maybe, some day, I will complete that paper and find a place to present it.

This played shook me to my bones. The most uncomfortable I've ever been while reading something. Will be a very interesting experience when I go see it.

“Theater imitates life If you don’t clap It means that life is rotten to the core And we may as well just head for the door.”

i have been waiting to read this play since my freshman year of college and now i finally have. overall i really love the idea of this show being in a house and you’re being taken around to the various scenes and they can be done in an order. of course seeing this show would be much different than reading it but overall i enjoyed it a lot and the views it has on the dirty war in argentina. also this was just creepy and disturbing and did an excellent job of using elements of theatre of terror, theatre of the absurd, and even theatre of cruelty…. so we love to see it!!!! anyways i definitely need to reread this at some point.
