I see that others have said this was one of their favorite childhood books and I suppose it might have been one of mine. However, I’m almost 50 and I read this to preview it for my kids. It’s not bad but it’s not particularly well-written or interesting either.

I got bored 3/4 of the way through and skimmed to the end.

Meh.

One of my all-time favorites. I can't even begin to tell you how hard we all worked at trying to kiss our own elbows (sure sign of being a fairy -- read the book and you'll get it!).

I was not expecting to love this as much as I did! I borrowed it from the library to read to my daughter. She loved it and so did I. It was such a cute story and if I'm being honest, I had to choke back tears while reading aloud to her for the last two chapters. This is a favorite!

Adorable. Came highly recommended my my sister-in-law. Would be a fun read aloud for younger kids.

An adorable tale of a talking dog, a curious little girl, a prim, proper and slightly fussy old woman and host of other cliche, but still enchanting characters.

A highly predictable read, but for someone looking for a sweet bedtime story or a story that shows a character making a hard choice on level believable of a six year old, there's enough quirky details and delightful elements to make this worth your while.

A sweet book. Many modern readers will probably find the lack of a cohesive plot undesirable but over all it was a good read.
