This book was excellent. It was excited and suspenseful. I had a hard time putting it down when I had to do homework and took my kindle with me to read it whenever I had a spare moment. Super excited to read the next one. :)

It was an easy read with an interesting enough story to keep me going. I had to keep reminding myself that it is intended for young adults, though. The made-up cursing was really annoying. I'll probably read the sequel(s) just to find out how the story ends.

Wicked Is Good…
Wicked Is Good…
Wicked Is Good…

Or is it?

“Read the Maze Runner series if you enjoy the Hunger Games series or the Divergent series.” I was told by searching on Google for my next read.

As a huge Hunger Games and Divergent fan, how can I not read this series with so many people recommending it?

My feelings are pretty neutral for this book. It’s not bad, but it's not good either. I mean I still like the book, but at the same time I really don’t…

******

Let’s start with the things I like first:

1. THE PLOT

Seriously, the plot is the ONLY thing that kept me on reading. It was really interesting as Thomas somehow appeared inside the “box” and was transported into a new world - the maze. Teenage boys just like him “live” inside the maze too. Everything was provided for them, or at least the essentials needed to survive.

It was a good start. Things Dashner introduced seemed interesting somehow, which kept me reading. And of course, it could be done better.

2. THE MAZE

The Maze… Only thing that kept me reading beside the plot. I mean, isn’t the whole maze thing wonderful?
Grievers coming out at night and stung people so the Gladers would be terrified, ok, I feel evil now. The maze would always close at night, and Gladers get a good night's sleep. There’s a way to solve the maze but apparently the runners are too stupid or they would not ask any people for help. [Wicked is so smart]

******

And here are the thing I personally dislike:

1. THE CHARACTERS

I don’t hate the characters, ok? I hate it how they don’t have a personality while all humans are supposed to have, or they are not humans somehow? When I read, I would usually feel attached to the characters or feel they are real people if it’s a good book. The thing is I didn’t even feel attached to the characters, they just feel pretty unreal for me, really fictional.
SpoilerThe weirdest thing that happened is I didn’t cry when the characters died. Period. I felt so UNEMOTIONAL when Chuck died…
I feel inhuman now…

The main thing that annoys me in the book is whenever Thomas asks questions, the other Gladers just tell him to “shut up,” what’s wrong with asking questions when all your memories are gone and suddenly you're in a new world? Do they just expect Thomas to get used to it or find the answer by himself? OMG, it’s so annoying!

Teresa the one and only girl in the maze. Her character was super boring. I feel like she is just in the book just because the book needs a female character. Ever since she woke after that stupid coma, she acted like she was Thomas' girlfriend even though Thomas didn’t even remember her. Plus, what is it up with Thomas? Since he first laid his eyes on her, the ONLY thing he noticed was her beauty… What the heck?!?

2. WORDS

Imagine talking to someone who is really dry. That’s how I feel while reading the book. The whole book just seemed unemotional, no feelings, dry. Nothing made me laugh, nothing made me cry, nothing made me angry. For me, if the words fail me in a book the book gets a bad rating.

Plus, stop using fake swear words.

3. THE RULES

What’s up with the rules?!? Thomas literally went inside the maze to save people, and the Gladers are deciding his punishments? UGHHH. These people have no logic.

4. THE CHAPTERS

Ok… what’s wrong with this book? All the chapters before Thomas runs into the maze were pretty much useless. The author spends too much time on useless things instead of going into the rising action or the main value of the book. There were way too many unanswered questions after reading the book, it feels like you debated for the whole hour for nothing.

******

It’s nothing like the Hunger Games or Divergent. But I can’t wait to read the next book because I need the author to answer my QUESTIONS!

Definitely a 2 stars if it’s not the plot… so 1 extra star for the plot! 2+1=3!

Why did I wait so long to pick up this book? It taunted me from the New Releases shelf for months before I actually gave in and grabbed it. There is no "Happily Ever After" in this book. It's pretty bleak all around. Yes, there's an ending, but it's just the beginning of Book 2. A fantastic novel that I read in one sitting last night.
