Why did I hear from so many people that this book was skippable and poorly crafted? I enjoyed it so much...

5/5 stars 415 pages this was equally as fantastic as the handmaids tale but also very different. in this one we follow three different voices, and there is much overlap with the original handmaids tale. some of our narrators were characters in the original text! i really enjoyed this and found it less distressing than the first one because the characters tones were different. the first book centered around trauma and existing in a constant state of trauma so it was really visceral and painful in an intimate way but this one was more informative and explorative! you learn more abt gilead

Was this book necessary ? Not at all. In addition to the plot of the characters being predictable, it did not focus on Gilead's downfall and how it came to that point but on the characters' stories and how they partook in said fall.
It thus gave us an insight of Offred's future after The Handmaid's Tale which would be better left to one's imagination. Nonetheless I liked the reflection "The Thirteenth Symposium" brought, because history does repeat itself and how we chose to look at it is up to us.
