King was, not surprisingly, a jerk, a blowhard, a misogynist, a "product of his times" but not without his good points and his ability, as part of his judgmental nature, to laugh at himself as well as at others. At this point it's a memoir of lusty appetites, as opposed to today's self-conscious foodie excursions.
