This novel was definitely out of my usual genres. It read like a scholarly article and journal and a lot of it felt over my head but it did give me a lot to ponder. For entertainment, it fell flat for me, but for the creativity and uniqueness of it - 10/10. I've never read anything quite like this before.

I think it's important to say first of all that I'm not the most avid reader. I read more than most people for sure, but definitely less than the average goodreads user. If a book doesn't captivate me right off the bat, I drop it. I consider myself more of a pragmatic soul than a romantic one, so a few years ago I switched to eBooks and never looked back.

Every discussion I read online suggested this book was best experienced in physical form, so I treated myself to the hardcover for the holidays. Kind of a big deal for me, and so admittedly I had high expectations.

The first question people immediately want to ask is: "What's it about?" Which is to be expected, but for your own sake, stop. Trying to explain the premise is very hard and doesn't do the book justice anyway.

I can tell you this much however; it's more than just a sequence of words. The book as an object entirely is the work of art. You don't just read it, you experience it. You go back and forth through the (gorgeous) pages, looking for clues you might have missed.

It's changed and is still changing the way I think about things. That childhood anxiety you've put to slumber years ago? I can feel it slowly being pushed to the surface again, and the hunger with which I devoured books back then along with it. Pretentious as all this may sound, there isn't another book out there like this one. It transcends genres and to an extent it questions the definition of a novel.

If printed literature is to survive the coming digital age, my bet is it will be in this form.

One of the more difficult and heavy books for me to get through, but at the same time it also tends to be immensely funny and entertaining and beautiful. It feels very real in that regard. It’s so dense and complicated and it feels like nothing is definitive but that’s also really cool man.

I want to say so much about this book but I am not sure how to put everything into words. It’s definitely the deepest and most elaborate book I’ve ever read though, I’m currently reading threads about details in this book and shocked about stuff that is subtly hidden between the lines. What a great book.
