Engagingly written. Felt older - reminded me of 1984 or Midwich Cuckoos, with a bit of 39 Steps thrown in. Quite slow and steady. But very evocative and interesting. A great humdrum/English/believable dystopia. Only real gripe is the stakes at the end didn’t feel high enough, so I was left wondering slightly what the point was

I started off excited since the movie is one of my favorites, but I realized about a third of the way in that it wouldn't be the same. I ended up disappointed. Even if I had never watched the film adaptation, I still would not have enjoyed the book any more than the 2 stars I rated it.

I didn't enjoy this book. The concept of a world where humans are incapable of procreating is interesting. But Theo is just a straight up horrible human being and I hated being in his head. Even though the whole appeal of the book is its dystopian setting, there was very little plot movement.
Moderate: Car accident, Child death, Death, Suicide, Pregnancy, Miscarriage, and Infertility
