At first blush, an abrasive and heartbreaking story concerning an enslaved Black woman and her relations -- but gradually unfolds into stories of queer love, settler colonialism, resisting racism, and building family. Really loved this one

Skim read the end with the help of SparkNotes as I just wasn’t enjoying it. Was mainly reading it for uni so not sure if that took the enjoyment out of it but I just really didn’t feel engaged in the storyline or the characters.
