2 1/2 stars

This is the story of a girl whose parents have set her up with a guy, but she doesn't like him so she hires a boyfriend. I picked it up in hopes of getting cute fake dating, but unfortunately was let down.

It's a nice story, but it feels one note. Feels like the "asian parents" aspect is pretty much the entire plot, which not only narrows down the audience but also makes it monotonous and a little annoying. Other books incorporate asian culture better without making parenting the pivotal point (her other book Our Wayward Fates, Frankly In Love, Loveboat Taipei, etc)

There are some great, hilarious and relatable moments, summing up customs and traditions in a fun and realistic settings...but i feel like only another Asian person could understand, and so it comes off as explanation of culture/sprinkling in relatability

I was ready to say 3 1/2 Stars at the beginning, but it just kept going on and on, and getting more annoying and cringey as it went. The relationship started annoying me more as they got together and I felt like there was no chemistry, just all instalove and sappy. Plus, she's 19 but i would never believe that if they hadn't told me

PG+- swearing, innuendo, some mention of sexual assault
