Wonderful book! I was very emotional the whole time. The pace had the perfect flow, and the writing was so simple, yet captivating. I was furious at the situation Amal was in. I felt her rage growing as she encountered unfair situation after unfair situation in her life. The struggles of the eldest daughter, her parents upset at the lack of a son who try over and over, being unable to openly meet her male childhood friend because of her age (12 years old), having to raise her siblings and be a spare mother, not having the same opportunities as a guy her age… it was infuriating. Though I loved her bravery and her rebellion! I love reading the ending because while I have read reviews claiming it was unrealistic, this is a book that gives out the message of not settling and accepting injustice, that trying to make things right can have a good outcome for yourself and those around you. Also that not everyone in your tight shoes, wears them in pain. Idk what anyone says, it deserved a somewhat happy ending and I’m glad that’s what it got.

Very educational(for everyone not just for middle grade readers). I don’t know a lot about Pakistan, but I did learn a lot in this book. I really admired Amal and how brave she was fighting for what she believes in. It’s really sad that what happens in this book happens and is usually a lot worse. I did really like the relationships she has and makes in the book. I do also think there’s a lot of good life lessons in this the main one being don’t be afraid to be brave.
