I wanted more insight and profound realizations from Rouse's memoirs, but it reads more like the "Sassy Gay Friend" youtube videos. Rouse's writing comes across as very arrogant and self involved writer. Even when he has some self-actualization moments, they are fleeting and shallow. There are a few bursts of humor in the novel, but it's mostly small talk and not a lot of substance. I wanted more.

Hysterical! I laughed so hard. The authors experience from moving from the City (St. Louis) to Saugatuck in south west MI is quite a treat.

I love Wade Rouse. He is the only person I can find who makes more pop culture references than I do. And although I didn't love this book as much as American Boy, it is a great read. Rouse's journey is heartening, enlightening, and heart-breaking at times. But best of all, it is real.

A less skillful wannabe David Sedaris, Rouse fires joke after joke in vague hopes that one will hit. I found myself tiring very quickly of his attempts to glorify his materialism and superficiality even before he began piling on trite platitudes.

Hilarious and light. I love being familiar with the area which let me fully put myself in wades shoes and imagining it. I am struggling to not start saying “snap crackle pop” when ever my partner mumbles. Would/will read again just for a laugh.

Wade Rouse is a city boy who is sick of it all and decides on a whim to move to Saugatuck, Michigan. To. A. Home. In. The. Country. Did I mention that he's a city boy? Shadows scare Wade. Night noises scare wade and corduroy being *dressed up* scares Wade. Love, love this book.
