I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am torn when writing this review. When I read the blurb marketing the book it talked about a teen who makes friends with the ghost living in her home and together they solve a mystery. It sounded like a great concept and I generally really enjoy reading YA paranormal. I personally liked the book if I regard it as being a book for new adult/adult audiences. I do not believe that this book should be read by teens as a YA book. The themes are very grown-up including the subjects of cutting, human trafficking and parents with drug abuse issues. I feel like while the cutting and living with drug abuse are real problems that some teens deal with they are better discussed in more appropriate setting where teens can get help. In fact in the book cutting seems to almost be encouraged as a way to deal with problems. This is definitely not ok as cutting is not a healthy way for anyone to cope. I believe that the blurb describing the book should be changed or there should be some warning included that states it has disturbing themes. Until that occurs I cannot in good conscience give it a good review.

Ugh. Well that was pretty terrible. I rolled my eyes so many times I lost count. Good thing it was free. Although if it hadn't been free I would never have read it...

This book was given to me as a gift from the author for the purpose of review.
I'm not going to be dishonest, this was not my type of read. From the jacket I got the impression that this would be cool paranormal book. In reality it did not seem to be like that to me.
I was not impressed by the writing style or the cover. Everything seemed to be either overly repetitive or not well enough explained. I may feel this way because this book does not really fall into my area of interest. I still thank the author for giving me the opportunity to read the book.

The Power of Friendship

I loved this story. Galactic Shade Griffin is a teen girl who deals with some serious issues, from bullying at various schools she's attended, to having a drug and alcohol addicted mom, to cutting herself to break through the numbness in her heart. just when she starts to feel normal and make what seems to be lasting and healthy friendships (even though one friend is a ghost!) her best friend disappears.

Shade has to find Annie and enlists the help of her two journalist friends from the high school newspaper. more girls are stolen and soon it looks like they have an even more evil plot afoot than they feared. With the help of a psychic and some otherworldly advice, maybe the budding journalist s can crack the. case. Or can they? Will Shade be a victim, or a hero?

This awesome book touched on several topics that teen girls face in today's society. The author does an excellent job of drawing the reader in and making the trials of her heroine real and relatable. I'll definitely recommend this story to other, and will be reading other books by this author for sure!

*Author Marilyn Peake was kind enough to send me a copy of this book for read and review! Thank you!*

Galatic Shade Griffin, that very name is proof that Shade's mom was unpredictable and flighty. Shade has to move once again after her mom breaks up with yet another of her boyfriends. However, this time, her move is different. Unlike the bullies that she usually attracts because of her name, she may have actual friends and be known around the school for something other than her strange name. Oh, and also, there's a Ghost that resides in her attic. However, Life doesn't like to be forgotten and decides to make another appearance. Shade's best friend is missing and it is soon found that she's not the only one. Some girls around her school start to go missing and Shade and her friends Kailee and George decide to take matters into their own hands.

I come from the world of Gods, Monsters and evil leaders who want to take over the world. But I also enjoy reading something contemporary or more serious once in a while. So what I enjoyed the most about this book, I think, is the way it weaves Fantasy and such a serious issue together. I can't say what the seious issue is because SPOILERS! but it IS serious. Brandon, the ghost, was the fantasy part of the story as well as other psychic business but the way they were both weaved into one story was excellent!

I found Shade's character relatable most of the time and it was nice to see the world through her eyes.

The book is short, fast-paced and quick and it'll just pull you in, so it can be finished in just one sitting. Good stuff here!

This cover is really gorgeous! Its really compelling and my eye was immediately drawn to it! I can’t even imagine how amazing this book would be in person. Its just striking and I feel that it goes with the premise of this book.

Most of this book was focused on the life of a teenager and how it sucks! As well as our main Shade dealing(not really) with her mother who is a druggie and alcoholic. Shade grows as a character and makes friends and becomes rather happy with her life until her best friend is kidnapped.

The mystery of this book was OK it wasn’t great! I found a lot of it was predictable. I liked that the paranormal element helped move the case along but it felt like the mains didn’t really do anything to solve the case other than whatever the ghosts said to do.

The ghost aspect also lacked in my opinion. I wanted to see Shade actually help Brandon but it didn’t really happen. His story line kinda just fell into place. Shade’s reaction to a ghost just falling into her life was also really strange she basically didn’t react at all and I felt that it was unbelievable.

My favorite part of this book was Shade and her school life I liked watching her become friends with different characters and come into who she is a person. The writing was also pretty good. I read the whole of this book in one sitting so I rather enjoyed the writing style and I was invested in seeing how the story went.

I think I would of liked this story a little bit more if there was one more chapter to fill in some of the loose ins that I didn’t feel were quite resolved. I think this book is mainly being used to set up the rest of the books in the series and give us a little taste of what is to come. Of the information I am aware of there is planned 5 more books in the series! At this time I do plan to at least pick up the next book in the series and decide from there if i will be continuing the series or not.

It took me a while to get into this book. The book is written from the point of view of the main character, Shade, a teenage girl in a very difficult situation, and the book reads very much like a teenager's diary or first attempt at fiction writing. However, the struggles Shade goes through, and her reactions to them, are often uncomfotably real. I ended up having a lot of sympathy for Shade, and I was glad to see her gradually find supportive friends, success in school, and self-confidence despite her fear that she wasn't capable of any of those things.
