I had every reason to like this book (L&L- Leo and Lesbians) but as a book it wasn’t very strong. Still Riordanverse but the weakest of the series. I don’t know, I just had a harder time following the conflict or feeling the stakes. Maybe I didn’t like that
meg was separated from the party but then she came back 150 pages in
but maybe that’s a me problem because I just don’t like her 🤷‍♀️. Maybe it needs a second chance?

I felt this book was very dry at the middle. This was especially the case with the perspective of the antagonist Commodus and the Triumvirate. I swear, it's already Book 2 and I can't seem to wrap my head they're the antagonists lol. Immortal and immoral Roman emperors seeking retribution and world domination seems to be a lousy concept of antagonists? But maybe now with Book 3 featuring Camp Jupiter itself involving Roman Mythology, maybe it will all make sense soon!

I never thought I would actually feel so heartbroken on the story of Trophonius and his brother Agamethus, especially on the scene that Apollo passed on Trophonius' love for his brother. Damn, that seriously hurt?

I am thankful to say that despite being on the verge of putting this as a 3 star, the lowest on a Percy Jackson related book, and in the midst of reading this during a holiday and cramming for assessments this did not actually happen. As usual, I love Apollo's development in both his character and his attitude, especially his humility and compassion. It was also nice to see Percy in this book and so mature and stronger than ever before during his pre-teens.

Now I am more excited to read the next book and revisit Camp Jupiter.
