I must say, the ending to this final chapter in the trilogy can with cymbals and drums and everything a great ending comes with.
After the previous book, with the Mission and being sent back to the Metropolis, you think Gene and the rest of the humans are goners. The Trap uncovers a lot of the past (even from Sissy and Ashley June's point of view) and there are some pretty big surprises hidden in there.
And finally the ending, what with turning around Nede and a new civilization hit it deep.

Wow. Okay, that was a twist I was not expecting. Talk about shocking. I loved it. The build up continued to the last end, and just when it really seemed that all hope was lost, the entire story connected and I got the catharsis I wanted. As for the rest of the story, it was a joy. A solid action ride where every angle was considered and the loopholes were closed. Definitely a gut-wrenching story and I was very happy to have read it. Wow.

I liked the first book. I liked it a lot, and I was pretty okay with the second book, but they just kept getting worse and worse.
I read about a third of the book before I couldn't take it anymore. Everything in this book made all the last books not make sense at all.
So Gene and Sissy together were the cures for the Duskers... why on Earth would Sissy be opposed to helping the Originators get the cure? I mean, you want them to continue being Duskers? You want more Duskers in this world? You don't want the Duskers, some of them maybe friends of yours from before, to be cured? Stupid.
Her reason seemed to be going the moral high ground, "Hey, if you don't let all the other captives go too, we won't help you." Um, sure, you won't give them the cure so that there'd be no more Duskers in the world so that the other captives can actually live in peace and freedom?
And yet, you were perfectly happy with any plan that would allow you and your friends to escape while all the other captives were still stuck in their prison.

I think this might be tied with the first book as my favorite for this series. We find our heroes thrown back into the fire in this final book, and I found the twists and turns of the story pretty interesting. We're given more and more hints about a secret truth as the story progresses and let me just say, I didn't see it coming. Maybe a little, but not exactly how it actually ended up. And I loved how the book ended. Though the quick wrap up summary at the very end might seem to some a little rushed and "easy", tying everything up with a nice bow, but I found it a fascinating twist on your standard vampire/dystopia story. Bravo, Andrew Fukuda, for creating what I found to be a wholly original story with some pretty darn interesting characters and backstory.
I definitely recommend this book to any lover of the young adult vampire genre, particularly those who favor the less Twilight-esque (though those will probably enjoy this series as well.)

This last book of the The Hunt trilogy turned out to be very interesting.
Gene and Sissy discovers the truth of the HEPER experiment. It is the reverse of everything they believed in, they are mutations. They were not the ones that originally existed but the duskers. Gene and Sissy and everyone else named 'humans' are actually the outcasts. The ones that should not exist.
Very surprised at how the book ended, and all the twists and finally the truth being revealed! Great read. I enjoyed The Hunt and The Prey was a cliffhanger. So I was really excited when I got The Trap in the mail.

Huh. Well the ending was definitely unexpected. Definitely unique. Definitely changes your view on the entire series. What did I just read?!
This book is different in many ways from the first two in the series. It had some sneak peeks into Sissy and Ashley June’s characters. They each get a few chapters of their own (though, told in third person). Ashley June’s chapters are interesting, as they provide a bit of a backstory for her and Gene.
I am still a bit shocked by the ending. It’s so messed up but it totally works.
I was disappointed with the romance of this series. I didn’t really feel much of a romantic connection between the love interests. There was definitely feeling there, but it felt more like friendship to me. I think the romance could have benefited from more development for sure.
The story as a whole was good. It kept me interested right until the end. There was always a lot going on and it keeps you guessing until the very end. I would recommend reading this series for its uniqueness alone.

Why do endings of trilogies never completely close up to a good ending they always leave me with questions i need answers for. Its just so depressing I was so into this book I couldn't put it down it was really intense, you were always getting to the end of a chapter and saying to yourself just one more chapter before bed because you wanted to know what happened next. But I was just left with questions that should of been answered in this last book like Did Clair ever make it to the east??? Did Gene and Sissy meat up with her??? What was there waiting for them in the east??? Were they successful at making human race grow to eventually make the vampire population extinct??? What did happen to Gene's father as well??? Instead they just finish the book, so I am left thinking REALLY!

This whole series is wonderful! Could not put them down. The story line, writing and characters were thoughtful and exciting. I highly recommend all three books to people who are looking for something a little different than the generic genres.

If you made it through The Hunt and The Prey, you might as well pick up The Trap. Not completely sure about the title. Yes, there's a trap. More than one, even. The Lie would have been better.
Not what I expected. At all. Interesting finale. But honestly, I think Gene and Sissy have cheated death a few too many times. The whole point of Ashley June's perspective when she's just going to ...? And Gene-Sis? Eden? Really?
