Texas based mystery whodunit where the main protagonist goes back home to try to remember whether she killed her best friend  or if something even more nefarious took place.  All the people from her past have their own depiction  of what really happened, but they're mostly all a bunch of gossipping or nosey butinskies. It was okay for me, because I don't like gossip.  Ending was just okay for me.  I didnt predict who did it, so that was a plus. Wanted to like it more, and so many really loved this book.  Maybe the audiobook was just annoying.

Listen for the Lie was a thoroughly engaging mystery that had me hooked right from the onset. Lucy’s character was absolutely fascinating with her dry sense of humor, interesting imagination, all while struggling to remember what happened the night her friend Savvy died. While I expected the story to focus on figuring out what happened to Savvy, I was not prepared for all of the cheating storylines. For a small town where everyone knew everyone else, in this town they really knew each other. I believe Tintera did an excellent job of weaving useless extra information with crucial tidbits that Lucy, Ben, and us readers had to sort through. I also really enjoyed the switch back and forth from Lucy’s POV to the podcast. It was an interesting method to use to share extra information with readers. With that in mind, I feel like the only way to truly appreciate that aspect is to listen to the audiobook. It’s phenomenal and definitely increases the enjoyment. The narration was great with January LaVoy nailing Lucy’s personality. Seriously just pick up the audiobook, you will not be disappointed.

Wow, this book was absolutely incredible. I only needed one chapter until it had me in an absolute chokehold. The book revolves around Lucy who is found wandering the streets covered in her best friends blood left without any memories of what happened and how she ended up there. Everyone in her small town believes she committed a horrific murder, killing her best friend Savy and Lucy can't fight the claims because she cant remember what happened that night. A few years pass and a true crime podcaster starts digging into the story and Lucy is drawn back in. The story weaves us through the terrifying events that led up to Savy's murder and all of the players in the small town are examined, nothing can stay a secret in a small town. The book had me guessing until the last page and kept me up into the wee hours on a work night. I could not sleep until I knew what happened.

I cannot recommend this book enough. It was go down as one of the best thrillers of the year!

Thank you Thank You to the Publisher and NetGalley for the gifted copy in exchange for my honest review, it was truly a pleasure from start to finish!

INCREDIBLE!!! Thank you NetGalley and Celadon Books for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.

What a riveting and suspenseful mystery thriller that will keep readers engaged to the very end!! The insane tension, dark humor, suspense, fast pacing, drama, short chapters, secrets, podcast interviews, dysfunctional family, biased neighbors and a main character that you cannot help but cheer for is what makes this a phenomenal thriller!! Also, I absolutely loved the ending and found myself shouting YESSSS!!!! Everything you could possibly want in a book and MORE!! This is my first read by Amy Tintera and it will not be my last! I cannot wait to read more of her books! Another thriller to add to my favorites list for 2024!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Five years ago, Lucy is found wandering the streets with a head wound, covered in dirt and her best friend Savvy's blood and everyone thinks she is a murderer. The problem is she can't remember anything about that night! To make matters worse, her own parents and community think she is lying despite there being no evidence to charge her of murder. But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast "Listen for the Lie," host Ben Owens, has decided to investigate Savvy's murder for the show's second season. Will he be able to uncover the truth? Did Lucy really kill her best friend or is she another victim wrongly accused by everyone? But does the truth really matter? I guess you will have to listen for the lie to find out!! 🫢

Overall, I was totally engrossed from start to finish!! If you're looking for a gripping suspenseful whodunit thriller that is unputdownable then this is the book for you! I highly recommend and it deserves ALL the stars!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Listen for the Lies” by Amy Tintera is a literary rollercoaster that takes ‘going off the rails’ to a whole new level. The story, set in a Texas town, introduces us to Lucy, whose life is less of a puzzle and more of a ‘whodunit’ where she might be the ‘who.’

The book’s kick-off had me glued, and I was scratching my head over why some of my fellow Goodreads reviewers, who are usually quite liberal with their star ratings, gave it a negative review. But hang on tight, folks, because this ride would soon nosedive into a melodrama of bedroom escapades, and a main character who fantasizes about murder more than a villain in a slasher flick.

But let’s cut to the chase—my pet peeves isn’t the town’s collective hobby of hopping into the wrong beds or the protagonist’s all-bark-no-bite homicidal daydreams. It’s not even the stereotypical villain with the clumsy murder.

SpoilerNo, the true pièce de résistance of my irritation is our dear Lucy, the runaway bride of crime town. She’s ditched her abusive ex, yet she’s out here distributing kisses to him like they’re going out of style—for ‘habit,’ ‘instinct,’ or my personal favorite, memory recovery.
