The marriage lie is about the falsehood of marriage bliss. Iris and Will are seemingly perfect for each other. They have a beautiful home in Inman Park, house poor from the purchase. But they have so much love to fill it. One day that all changes, Will is on a plane to Seattle and it crashes. But WIll was supposed to be going to Florida. Why was he on that plane? Did Iris know her husband at all?

This book will absolutely bring you to your knees from the twists and turns. Everything layers on top of each other until you are overcome with the realization that you have no idea what the hell is going on, but that’s good.

I loved the world building; I loved reading about the places that I’ve been and driven down. The family she has flocking to her aid made me extremely happy. The reality of what was happening to her was unflinchingly real by the reactions of her peers and family.

Now for what I didn’t love: the representation. Atlanta is a massively diverse city and there weren’t any people of color in her life. Like at all. Maybe that is because of where Iris works and lives but the only person of color is Corbin and his skin is described as dark black. It’s almost like she notices him at the funeral, just because he’s the only black person there.

This book should serve as a warning for people. IF you feel like things are going too well, check that stuff out. Also do a background check on the person you are going to marry.

If you want a solid domestic thriller, this is your best bet. I mean who can resist a witty gay twin brother? Who?

God awful. Terrible, predictable story with a deeply unlikable main character.

I have some mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, it kept me reading and I was fully engrossed in it. On the other, I couldn't get past the dissonance I felt at some of the main character's actions. And worst of all...

The lone black character in the book, the one who is initially handsome and kind and helpful, turns out to be the villain. I wish I could say I was shocked, but I wasn't. I saw it coming from approximately a billion miles away.

As terrible as the stereotypical depiction of this character was, insult is added to injury by Will justifying his own actions because of Corban, and by Iris having some pretty mixed feelings toward Will while clearly seeing Corban as a bad guy.

I read this book very quickly and enjoyed it somewhat, but it was another unrealistic thriller with clique characters, stereotypical characters, and the perfect marriage gone bad trope.
