This was my first literary foray into the world of Agatha Christie and it was a fantastic start - this book really shows why she is a national treasure!

I loved the slow unfolding of the characters, I loved the signature way the author drops in plenty of circumstances that make you doubt each character and subtle little clues that make you think ‘how did I miss that?!’

I tried to guess and whittled it down to two possibles but was ultimately wrong because of the fantastic twist right at the very end

A really great book

After so many odd Christie experimentations it's nice to have a straight down-the-middle murder plot, with Poirot present - but not too soon - and the solution visible - but not too visible.  If people want to know what the Christie "formula" is you could do a lot worse than this little sharp nugget of murder and lies.  You should always be on high alert when Christie puts an actor in her stories!

Christie's novels are always full of misogyny; a product of the times when the books were written, of course. I still always find them fun and campy. After back-to-back boring books that nearly put me in a reading slump, I knew a Poirot novel would pull me out of it.
