A Line in the World is part travelogue, part personal and family memoir, part more wide ranging philosophical musing, which centres on the rugged North Sea coast of Denmark. It's not a straightforward chronological narrative; rather, a collection of essays in which themes like the position of women in society, Danish history, family history, personal memories, and environmental concerns are explored . Occasionally, it felt a little esoteric, and some of the connections felt somewhat tenuous. Yet Nors's nature writing, her ability to create a strong sense of place, and to convey her love for an environment which many would class as stark, bleak, and inhospitable, impressed.
