The brothers in this book are so different from my sibling and I that it did take me a while to feel like I had an understanding of their relationship. But, that is one of the wonders of books: taking you inside lives and relationships that differ from your personal experience.
It did feel hard to understand the flow of time in the book occasionally, and so sometimes it felt like things happened faster than seemed like they would in real life.
Since the reader only knows things that Genie sees, is told, etc. there are things that are left up for the reader to piece together. However, I did like and appreciate how everything didn’t necessarily get fully laid out. I think this also helped keep the focus more tightly on Genie, even though other characters also had important roles in the story.
