This is the third book that I’ve read (listened to) by this author. One, the first one I tried (Temporary Girl) I quit partway through due to annoyance at the characters and getting sick of hearing lowkey transphobic comments constantly. (iirc, the queer mc and her queer friend did SO many variations on “ew penis is gross” from the queer woman and “ew vaginas are gross” from the queer man just… constantly, that I finally just rage quit). But I gave her another try and listened to The Lure of White Oak and largely loved it.

This one was somewhere in the middle for me. Not in terms of offense, but enjoyment. The main characters were both pretty great, and despite not really liking instalove tropes, I enjoyed their dynamic. I think that some of the comedy stuff just got to be too much for me. It felt like trying really hard to be funny and odd, rather than having any of it happen organically. It might just be that I didn’t quite connect with the side characters as much as I enjoyed the ones in White Oak. Who knows. Lori Prince narrates a lot of her books, and I like her, so I’ll probably try a few other titles.

Only having now read the book does the cover make sense! And it really didn't on the Paperwhite.

Cute, small town lesbian romance; something Robin Alexander always excels at. I didn't realize she had a new book out, and my Kindle recommended I buy it, and I did on the spot. No regrets. Was a bit shorter than I like, but I can't even be mad.

Not exactly love at first sight, but… well, you'll find out! If you can't stand a faster pace, then this is not the book for you, because the events unfold primarily over a single week. If you choose to skip this book based on that alone however, it is truly your loss. Especially if you're an Alexander fan.

Will read again, no doubt.

Really funny telling of 2 families that hate each other but growing together in love. Very fast pace all happens in like a week.

Hilarious and a must read

It has been a while since a book made me laugh so hard. It is so well written, with wonderful characters and a really sweet, if hilarious, story. Go for it, you won't regret it !

This is a frothy lesbian romance about two women from feuding families who fall in love despite the reasons they shouldn't. It's got some funny conversations and situations, and I enjoyed it, but having read my one-line synopsis you've basically got the whole story. The plot - and the writing in general - lacks much depth and everything kind of works out for the characters in a very relaxed and unchallenging way. Which is actually nice as a change of pace from some of the angstier romances out there, but it does mean that the book really works best if what you're looking for is sheer "turn your brain off" wish fulfillment (with some chuckles along the way).

This was a fun if simplistic lesbian version of the two feuding families secret/forbidden romance(the second I have read this month strangely). It was over the top ridiculous, very rushed and some points annoyed me early on, but I found it amusing more than I expected, and laughter can make up for a lot of shortcomings in a book. Overpriced for how short it is, but I enjoyed it so it was a win, and it helped put me in a better mood after the let down of the other books I read today.
