It’s just slow and I’m not a fan of the writing style. The exposition is clunky and difficult to get through, and I’m just not interested enough to keep my eyes on the page, even though I know I haven’t reached the meat of the novel. I have started and stopped multiple times and it’s just not for me right now

I both liked and disliked this book. It was a bit of a slow burn and I struggled to keep with it for a bit in the middle there, but it was also hauntingly beautiful. It is, as the cover quotes, both gritty and gorgeous, but it also reads like a fever dream that somehow combines Native American traditions, revenge, elk and basketball. It’s weird, it’s beautiful, it definitely leaves you wondering what the hell you just read, but it’s also going to live rent free in my head for a bit while I chew it over and digest it.

A literary take on commercial interests. I really enjoyed the elevated language and storytelling, however it did become confusing at times. It left me desparate for more, for a clear ending. Graham Jones paints an eerie and terrifying look at rez life, both in the natural and supernatural realms.

I didn’t understand it entirely but it was really well written and the 2nd person perspective was a different and refreshing element to the book!
