A [b:A Christmas Carol|5326|A Christmas Carol|Charles Dickens|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1406512317l/5326._SY75_.jpg|3097440]l, being a novella, doesn’t develop the character of Marley, we only know he was Scrooge’s greedy partner that announces the spirits visits.
I liked [b:Jacob T. Marley|11451071|Jacob T. Marley|R. William Bennett|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1319455998l/11451071._SX50_.jpg|16385024]better than this. We see Marley though his sister Clara point of view.
This was too naive, too preachy and overly dramatic, borderline tragic. Sure, Marley is a greedy person but he is a business man and he is right, he isn’t running a charity. I would have prefer it if the focus of the story was his lack of empathy for the poor, having Clara suggest to him to give some of his earnings back to the community. I don’t know, I just don’t think you can blame a bank for collecting someone debt
