2nd time reading. One of my favorite books ever. A beautiful, elegant pull on the heartstrings. An engrossing love story. An LGBT classic. I can't wait for the sequel in October!

The beginning was almost TOO slow. I felt like I was reading in slow motion. It’s weird cause I didn’t LOVVEEE it but the parts I loved I LOOVVEEEDD.
This is how I feel every time I have a crush. All consuming
The religious sexualizing was a bit weird to me. Maybe that’s the wrong wording. But when religion is over sexualized it’s really weird to me. And maybe the wasn’t the intention but it comes off that way to me

I felt every single wasted second tick by, then I felt every year tick by after that. The book captures the passage of time in one of the most devastating ways I’ve ever read.

This book was slow to get into for me. Initially it felt like nothing was happening and I considered DNFing it over and over. I decided to stick through because I have heard so many good things and I also agreed to read it and then watch the movie with a friend before discussing both.

Eventually, this did get better for me and portrayed a striking display of intimacy and love and showed the complicated feelings surrounding both things and youth. This book will make you feel strange and question your beliefs on morality issues which for me, helped increase the rating. I believe books should often challenge the way you feel about things. I also think this is the kind of book where you may understand more each time you read it and it may be worth a reread.
