My Year 2 placement class have enjoyed reading this as their class text and "story mapping" and "story stepping" in order to write their own retelling. Anansi is a prolific figure in African and Caribbean folklore meaning it's a great story for learning about different cultures and environments.

I love Anansi stories. I'm not that crazy about Kimmel's illustrations, which are a little cartoonish for me, but I think his storytelling does such a fabulous job of bringing out the absurdity. This one is particularly funny, and I love the way the shy Little Bush Deer solves the problem and gives Anansi a taste of his own medicine! I think the repetition appeals to kids, also. My daughter really liked it.

Children enjoy the illustrations, the animals, and the story! Clever and well done!

Read to third graders during reader's workshop. Used to reinforce writing complete sentences using part of the question in the answer.

I selected this book after seeing it on Travis Jonker's "Read Aloud Hall of Fame." I actually checked out the audiobook from Hoopla while reading the pages from another Hoopla checkout. The narrator was excellent. I could see how this could get a lot of audience participation!
