This was a fun book and I enjoyed reading it. I liked the romance and I loved the friendship between Misery and Serena. The Fantasy and Worldbuilding fell a bit flat to me and the plot twists were quite predictable. I like Alis writing style and because of that I had a great time but I do understand why people would not like this book.
That the protagonists are mates is so obvious from the moment they first meet but somehow our protagonist keeps being in denial. This leads to some funny moments but is also unrealistic because it is made SO obvious and pretty much hinted at by every character ever.

The story was fun and I liked the mystery aspect of it but the conclusion just happened so quickly I felt like a lot of things were just left unexplained. I wish we could have gone a bit more in depth about this. And it would have been fun if they found out about all this on their own and not through some villain monologue info dump at the end. If this book was longer and we got more worldbuilding and explanations I would have liked it more. But since this is first and foremost a romance and not a fantasy I do understand it.
I was worried about it being about Werwolfs because I'm not really a fan of those but the whole pack thing was quite sweet.
The knot thing however...? That was weird and I don't particularly feel like reading werewolf smut ever again.
(But if she writes a book about Serena and Koen I might...)

All in all if you like Ali Hazelwood and you're looking for a romance book you will probably like this one too. But if you're looking for a Werewolf and Vampire Fantasy book with a focus on  worldbuilding and conflicts, maybe this is not what you're looking for.

What is this thing about biting each other when felt like and that could make the pair more romantic? And what is a knot? If the knot really hindered an inter species sex, maybe would have accepted but MATE SEX?!I am never buying that. I hated these two parts.

All points for my girl, Misery. She is confused, she is a nerd, she is a coder and she has a big unyielding heart. Lowe was okay but his alpha nature and his paternal love for his sis was beautiful. However, for me I could not love him as strongly as I loved Levi or Jonathan Turner. Turner was the best nerdy MMC possible.
I love how Ali Hazelwood works on slow burn romance, how she makes a strong nerdy sciency female character. I, being, a microbiologist gets so many nostalgic moments while Ali explains bio. It’s a feast to my eyes. I feel nerdy women in STEM are so powerful a choice to be someone’s main character.
Anyways, Serena is a lovely side character and Alex too. Looking forward to more Koen and Serena stuffs, if the final book really deals about that!

“Then I need to eat you out, it’s a were thing”

The audiobook narrator for this is amazing! I think it makes sense that omegaverse is coming out of fan fic after the popularity of all the fae romances that include mates, scenting, possessiveness, etc. This is a fun addition to the typical Ali Hazelwood book, we still get women absolutely owning some STEM knowledge - but this time we get men that have no idea how to either. Some of the typical tropes (hulking dark haired love interest, awkward main character with no friends except one person that she has strange banter with, etc.)  are the same from her previous books but fit nicely into this world.
I didn't really enjoy the random flashbacks to unspecified time beforehand, I don't think it really added much to the book. I also had an issue with the multiple instances of a huge cliffhanger chapter ending, then the next chapter starting without addressing the ending of the previous - until about halfway through. I think Lo's "alpha behavior" went a bit too controlling/authoritative, there's a surprising amount of gaslighting or him just shutting down the conversation with one word answers from him (or none at all).

This was a fun foray into omegaverse but wasn't really my favorite.
