dark mysterious fast-paced

2.5

Rough start, I feel like at least two additional chapters to slowly introduce the list of information and characters we got instead would have improved things significantly. It’s engaging, fast paced, and kept you guessing, while simultaneously moving so slowly and jumping forward a week or more at a time. Both highly detailed AND broad strokes, somehow, and by the time you’ve reached the end, you get the impression that the purpose of the book is to set up for the second. The comparisons to Naomi Novik and Olivie Blake are inaccurate, in my opinion.
All of that being said, the plot is intriguing enough to keep you reading, and I’m extremely curious to see where it goes from here.
