Fast paced, gripping and unsettling.
Much like Ghachar Ghochar, I think Sakina's Kiss is primarily a story of the male narrator who seems to be a product of the bygone era.
He holds on to self-help books like they're sacred truth, but barely ventures beyond that as a husband and as a father (or as a son too). And that's how the story unfolds. In his desperate attempt to make sense of what's going on in his life (or what happened in the past).
It is as much a political commentary as it is story of an ordinary middle class man, failing to acknowledge his own shortcomings in a changing landscape.
The story is open-ended, leaving many questions unanswered.
But maybe the answer lies between the lines, waiting to be assigned meaning from the reader's perspective.
