There is a lot here. Strong characters, compelling world. The narrative felt very linear - I wanted more varied pacing and a stronger narrative arc. I also hate a cliffhanger ending. It was kind of like one loooooong intro section and a cliffhanger ending. Fable is an interesting and dynamic character. The romance was troublesome - it felt less like Fable wasn’t interested in West so much as she longed for acceptance and belonging from /anyone/. I would have preferred a slower burn where Fable comes to return West’s unrequited love, but hopefully this messiness will be examined in the next book?

What a fun read! I really enjoyed getting into this book! A new world to learn about, all focused around sailing the seas. The story is really quick paced and I loved so much. There's a wonderful, rag tag crew sailing a ship and a lonely, headstrong girl looking for a family and home. All of the relationship dynamics were really interesting in this story too, I kept thinking things would go one way and they would make a different turn and it was all a pleasant surprise! Excited to start reading the next book.
