I didn't particularly like the discussion of gender, per se... another fairly reductive exploration of what gender means in picture book form. However, I think this book's real value is in how it shows Susu's sense of loss and subsequent rediscovery of her love for a person who is still someone she's loved dearly. Tempted to buy a bunch of copies of this book and mail them to the families of friends who have been cut off by unaccepting family members...

This book covers this subject matter with such a delicate and wonderful hand. We bought this for my nephew for Christmas, and we've read it through with him several times, and each time it has my wife and I in tears by the end.

I'm really thankful for books like this, that help to celebrate all families.

I highly recommend this, for all homes with little beans.

Oh no, a Trans kid. Hurry ban the book before it turns others Trans. Or, it could just be a book showing us that kids know who they are. It's a very sweet story that shows us our expectations may not be what everyone ascribes to be.

Story about a trans kid from cisgender point of view that maintains gender stereotypes. Disappointing.

Siento que es una idea bastante simple de lo que es ser trans y explorar tu identidad desde una edad temprana.

I watched someone read this out loud online, I think that counts.
I don't know any small children, so I can't really know if they'd like the book but it seems like a cute way to explain being trans to kids!

Me gusta la representación y eso, pero la manera en que es muy estereotípico que cosas son para niños y que cosas son para niñas no me agrado.
