The writing is too clunky for my taste

A talented baker feeling guilty over leaving her elderly grandparents, ok, I'm in. But reiterating that guilt, over and over, and then lighting it on fire with desire, matched by the male character's need to find his person, again mentioned constantly? Nah, not something I could wade through.

this book was so good!! i listened to this on audible, and the narrators made this very enjoyable. i really enjoyed the banter, the pacing was great, and i really connected with alisha. not only does this feel like a romantic comedy, but it offers forced proximity, familial struggles, and facing hard conversations.

the only reason it's not 5 stars is i wanted a little more spice or spark from alisha and quentin. even though it was forced proximity, from quentin it just seemed too forced. some of the things quentin was saying i was questioning, and i wondered if he was really feeling her. it felt like alisha really had to put herself out there for this man, which i felt in some ways wasn't recriprocated. this story is told dual pov and third person, so if it wasn't for quentin's chapters, i would be questioning "why is she always making the first move?" or "why is he pressuring her when he's a hypocrite himself?"

however i loved the playfulness, the sweetness, and the warmth from alisha's gram.

i will say i can understand the miscommunication, only because i can relate to that heavily and unsure of what road to take. that's why i loved this book so much - it's extremely relatable.

I thought it was supposed to be an adult romance but read like ya.
