Every once in a while I read a book so terribly written and executed, I think to myself that maybe I’m not that bad at writing. I’ve managed to read 80 pages until I decided I didn’t wanna lose any more of my time and brain cells in attempting to finish this book.
What happened in those 80 pages? Absolutely nothing. It has been 80% the narrator complaining about her sister Mattie for being too self-absorbed with her looks, so much so that she describes her as a sex goddess and 20% talking about Kit Godden whom we know nothing about aside from being described as a golden Greek god 💀

Was looking for a book that just tells a story and this does just that... Justice for Hugo

Idk. I kiiinda liked this book but was not blown away or intrigued at all really. Not until maybe the last 30 pages. I feel like my biggest issue with the book is the way that Kit is made the villain and Mal almost a victim to Kit. Unless I’m missing something, isn’t Kit a minor/just came of age, and Mal a full grown adult. And in the THE scene, isn’t Kit saying “No”? So was Kit not raped?? How was that not acknowledged at all??? I’m just so confused. I liked how the main character grew to be more compassionate towards Mattie as I really hated how judgmental they were towards her in the beginning. So that was nice to see. I also found Tam quite interesting, but Hugo’s development felt quite clunky to me. Overall idk how to feel about this book.

It was, interesting. definitely a very particular sort of story, a bit odd at times as we don't know anything about the narrator or what the family do when their not at the summer house, but it is unique to say the least.

I was hesitant going in because it reminded me of We Were Liars. Because of that knowledge, I found the book to be boring. I hate saying it but I did not enjoy the romance or plot as much as I thought.
