1.5 maybe on a good day when im feeling really nice. the diversity representation felt extremely contrived but not as contrived as the connection between mason and rachel….. the entire point of the book…. yeah anyway this whole book flew by in part because i couldn’t stand it anymore. on the whole, it reads as a white woman’s romcom who attended a DEI training and find-and-replaced white for literally every ethnicity under the sun with little to no substance behind those characters

The author described in the note at the end of the book how she’d felt the need to write something “warm and gentle” during the chaos that was 2020. I think she absolutely achieved a wonderfully cozy book that was so comforting to read. I really enjoyed her debut adult novel, Float Plan last year, and this was a delightful spin off. While not as intense as Float Plan, there are still heavy topics (grief after child loss, parental custody issues) discussed.
If you are in the mood for a low key, fun contemporary romance, check this one out. With a small Ohio island setting and fun community feel, the main character is going to work at a inn and brewery. I really enjoyed both the setting and the making of the inn. Slower-paced and sweet, it was such an easy and relaxing read.

What a pleasant surprise with this book.
In the sequel to Float Plan, we follow the sister, Rachel. After her on again off again relationship with the father of her child and losing her job as a hotel manager, she and her daughter move to a small town to develop a hotel.
As someone who was a single mom for nearly 7 years, I absolutely adored this book. Very quick read, slightly cheesy, and everything I wanted to read during these hot summer days.
