I loved this wonderful novella by Elizabeth Holland with a focus on mental health. Ana’s life is forever changed after a mental health tragedy involving a family member. THE BALANCE BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH chronicles her experiences with anxiety and her personal mental health struggles as a result of her PTSD. I loved how the book showed the way Ana pushing people away out of fear of abandonment. She has so many people in her life who are positive and caring. I loved Claire and Noah, but she still has to deal with the pain and abandonment of her parents, I thought the book did an excellent job of showing how mental health is something that is a long term journey. Some interesting twists towards the end! 5/5 stars.

Trigger Warnings:
Spoiler suicide, suicide attempt

This was an engaging and touching read about a woman struggling with anxiety from shocking events in her childhood and youth. We are given a look inside the woman's mind as she attempts to move forward while holding on to the walls of safety she built around her. Although there were punctuation issues (missing commas and the like) I found it an easy read and a most satisfying one, with an important message to convey.

Families are hard.

Sometimes it takes a tragedy to bring a family back together. Elizabeth Holland shows us that sometimes tragedy leads to victory. I charming read that I would recommend.
