Another charming adventure with Mama's girls, read to my own girl! This installment focuses on settlement life and the sad story of orphan, immmigrant Guido.

Emily's review: I wish it had more action, but it was a good story.

We adore this book series. It's a joy to be able to read something that's similar to our faith and learn about how a family would do things. It's a very wholesome book filled with laughter, joy and things to think about.

Another delightful read in this series! I really love this family, as well as their adventures. I again wish there was more of a continuous narrative rather than a series of vignettes that are only somewhat connected. Beyond that, I have no complaints for this super entertaining children's lit book.

I recommend to everybody, but especially young readers getting into chapter books, those not family with Jewish culture, or any looking for a good-natured VERY LIGHT read.

Chronologically, I think this would be the second in the series, but it was written later and the stories just aren't as compelling.

The books in this series are the books that got me hooked on reading. My mom would take my brothers and I to the Tumwater Library, a old storefront in a little strip mall. I was convinced of the boredom that lay in store of me as I waited for my brothers and mom to select books. Somehow I stumbled across this oversized book with a colorful cover of old times as I obliged my mom by trying to find out something. Once I picked it out the awkward diamond shaped children's shelves, I knew I would love it. Every time we went to the library from then on I would search for this book. I did not know books could come in series until I was shocked to discover another one of these books that was the same but more of the story. I was hooked, I read these books over and over. I am thrilled and love them just as much rediscovering them again.

More adventure with the plucky Jewish family in turn of the century New York. We totally read these books out of order.
