I thought this was a funny book. The concept was very silly but it was an enjoyable read.

Arrogant King? Definitely. Duncan is more concerned with his appearance than maintaining his kingdom and keeping the citizens happy. He stars at himself in mirrors all day and even when the people protest for better roads or safer slides for children (the protest signs are quite humorous), the King's answer is to hang a giant poster of himself on the castle wall, for the kingdom to "enjoy."

A sneaky royal subject begins to gain revenge by painting mustaches all over the King's beloved billboards, enraging Duncan and creating some pretty silly results in the kingdom.

This one was a cute read for your older kids. The illustrations are definitely the standout portion of this story. Make sure you peruse the page for awhile to take in all the great details!

A fun little story that even an adult will enjoy.

I love Mac Barnett. He's so funny and he never writes the same book twice. I haven't read one of his books in a while so this was a nice refresher. The illustrations are great, too, and really might be even better than the prose. That Jester has a hell of a job; I don't envy him having to juggle turkeys, bowling pins, ice cream cones, mirrors, etc. Whatever he's getting paid isn't enough.

who doesn't love a good drawn on mustache? Apparently this king! It was fun to see the different types of mustaches people drew. The king was not very nice so you learned that when you are not nice you don't end up with friends. So much going on without you realizing at first so you can read it again and again to learn a new lesson.

Four stars until the ending, which was anticlimactic.

The very handsome (???) King is a horrible, self-centered King who does little for his subjects.
That is until someone defaces his poster with an offending mustache!
The images here are lovely and the story is amusing.

A story about a kingdom ruled by an arrogant king, who doesnt solve any of the problems within his town because he is too obsessed with himself. It is a cute story, but it doesnt have any real resolution. The town is still suffering at the end, and they are still ruled by the arrogant king.

Cute, amusing, but definitely lacked something at the end. I will try it in storytime and see how the kids react.

I thought I would love this! The cover just screams out, "Read me!" The illustrations by Kevin Cornell are full of fun little details. But while it looks promising in the beginning, this story has too much middle leading to an ending that really doesn't satisfy.
