Book 3 did indeed make the series better. I'll give it 4 stars, but I've got to admit to being kind of irked by book series in which the first few books really just serve as exposition for the final and overarching plot.

I will say for this one the story did do some pretty cool things, but I was also kinda ready to move on to the next thing and just wanted to be done with it.

The cool stuff that it did do does make me want to re-read it in the future and I think I will enjoy it a lot more because I'll have the foundation that I think I was kinda missing in the first read. Part of this is because of how I consume media, I just push through until things makes sense and that doesn't always work for stories with a bunch of different things going on.

3.75 stars, rounded up.

Yay, we're finished! The writing in this series never felt as polished as in most A-list fantasy series, but the plot itself was fairly on par. There were once again some minor pacing issues. The revelations near the end of the book were solidly established but still surprising. And the end was the first point during reading that I ever got truly emotional, even though I sort of knew what was coming.

SpoilerI took off .25 of a star due to the decision to destroy magic for good. It was reasonably justified in this story, but I'm with Brando Sando on this—it's never what I really want to have happen. Why leave the world a duller place than when you found it? Oh, well.

This was a good final book. There was a lot of action and I found myself laughing out loud at some points (drunk Tea 😂) and feeling sad for other characters. I enjoyed the series as a whole and would recommend
