A dark tale filled with lies, horrific people, dark history, darker events, ghosts, coming of age, and love. This one twits at the heartstrings. I loved it, it made me cry and cheer.
Estella is living in her wicked step mother's home after losing her father. She is 18, just trying to graduate so she can collect her inheritance and find some happiness somewhere. In this house with the ghost of her loving father, her mean alcoholic step mother and sickly step grandmother, life is dreary. This is a house without love or hope, it’s dark and filled with nightmares. She finds solace in her religion as a devout Catholic.
Noah is a dark star 25 yrs old, her step mother's younger brother. He walks into her world and everything changes. He is all shadows, darkness and mystery. He is an unknown and she is drawn to him. His story is in the pages, you don’t want me to spoil it.
This is a very different book from what I’m used to reading from this author. I usually love all her characters and and be can sure of a HEA. Not in this book, I really hated a few of them and doubted any happiness could come out of it. Estella, the main female character was a slow to love one. She was young, meek, and super religious, not my kind of girl. Noah was the darkness but it wasn’t like I’ve come to expect in many stories. Both of these characters were so new and fresh to read. Watching their stories unravel and the truths be revealed was sweet and shocking. They start so disconnected so unhappy and slowly they get closer, some sparks fly and yet there is something very wrong. The other characters were.. well I’m not going to say . There were very good at what they were. At the ned of the book I was so sad to see the story end. I will miss them.

The mood and atmosphere are incredible!
Immediately I was sucked into the story.
Completely original in my opinion.
Nothing is clear from the beginning and it’s who, what, why and when?!
I loved the atmosphere created and it was so consistent!
Modern gothic for sure!
It wasn’t “too anything” Just right in my opinion.
The main characters are relatable, interesting and together they spark and flame!!
Hot chemistry, long kept secrets and revenge are the theme.
Throw in some supernatural and some family/ town drama and you’ve got an incredibly interesting and heartfelt story.
I am in a book funk because this was an amazing story!!

This was a fun contemporary gothic horror which I have never read before. It was fun to have that gothic dark mystery set in the present time Ireland. Estrella is eighteen and hasn't had a very good few years. She lives with her wicked stepmother and it was interesting how everything played out there. Once I started and Noah showed up I was really curious what had happened in the house and where the story would go.
Estrella has been trying to just get through school so she can go far, far away from there and only has a few months left. But of course things aren't that simple and it was a fun read. Noah was an interesting read. It took a while before you can really get a handle on who he is and what he is all about. I don't want to say too much as I don't want to ruin anything for anyone, but if you are a fan of gothic romances you might want to give this one a try. It has all that gothic goodness I love.

First Things First: Dieses Cover ist absolut wunderschön! Ich liebe den Titel dazu, es ist einfach so stimmig und passt im Nachhinein auch unfassbar gut zum Buch und dessen Geschichte.
Der Einstieg in die Geschichte gefiel mir sehr gut, auch wenn es absolut nicht das war, was ich bei sonstiger New Adult Romance erwarte. Es ist dennoch eine Liebesgeschichte zwischen zwei jungen Protagonist*innen, aber es ist sehr geheimnisvoll, mysteriös, teils paranormal und dazu sehr spannend. Die ganzen Geheimnisse, die zu Beginn aufkamen, ließen einige Fragen entstehen und ich war sehr gespannt darauf, diese zu lösen.
Estelle gefiel mir als Protagonistin sehr gut. Sie ist mit ihren 18 Jahren sehr mutig und stark. Auf mich wirkte sie für ihr Alter sehr reif, auch wenn es natürlich dennoch ein paar Szenen gab, in denen sie weniger reif handelte.
Noah ist der geheimnisvolle Part in diesem Buch und mit seiner Neuankunft im Haus wirbelt er so einige Dinge auf. Dennoch wird schnell klar, dass er nicht so verschlossen und böse ist, wie er anfangs wirkte und so gefiel auch er mir irgendwann sehr gut. Ein paar seiner Stimmungsschwankungen sind mir schleierhaft, aber dennoch ist er ein runder Charakter und es ist nachvollziehbar, warum er so handelt, wie er handelt.
Die Geschichte der beiden entsteht, obwohl alles in Geheimnissen liegt. Die Entstehung von Estelles Gefühlen zu Noah empfand ich als etwas schnell und unerklärlich, aber je weiter das Buch fortschritt, desto mehr verständlich wurden mir die Gefühle der beiden zueinander.
Jedoch steht ihre Liebesgeschichte nicht im Vordergrund. Eher geht es um Vee, Estelles Stiefmutter, und Noah und deren Vergangenheit. Denn Noah kam nicht ohne Grund zurück in sein altes Zuhause und gemeinsam mit Estelle kommen wir den Geheimnissen näher. In der Mitte gab es leider ein paar Szenen, die nicht förderlich für die Geschichte waren und mir eher als Füller vorkamen. So zog sich der Mittelteil doch leider ein wenig.
Das Ende ist dafür umso spannender, da dort nach und nach die Geheimnisse gelüftet werden und für einige Twists sorgen. Mir gefiel das Mysteriöse an diesem Buch sehr gut, da es mal etwas anderes im New Adult Romance Bereich war. Es erinnerte mich etwas an "Verity", nicht von der Geschichte selbst, sondern eher von den Geheimnissen her und es war auch etwas jugendlicher.

Can never go wrong with a LH Cosway book, her writing is just phenomenal. It was no different with this one.

Have you ever felt that chill up your spine and could quite place why? Or hear that faint whisper but swore to yourself it was just the wind? Or had dreams that felt so real?
Beyond the Sea gives you the chills with more than just whisper voices and chills up your spines it’s written in the words. It’s dark ghosts and mysteries waiting to be found out. It’s a story about Estella and the house that drowns her and Noah and house that casts him out.
I was so enthralled by the way the light always outshines the darkness, even in moments of most despair there was hope. There were moments in the book where L. H. Cosway just shocked me, where I just had to sit and just reread what I read to really believe. You felt yourself being swallowed by this book they way Estella felt, you felt all the emotions the house placed on all of her.
There is sadness in this house. There is survival in this house and beyond the sea there is hope. A hope of that in dark you find light, the fight is worth it all.
I can't remember the last time I read a book like this and I don't know how one will ever compare now.

Wow, was ein Buch! Der Klappentext wird „Beyond the Sea“ nicht ansatzweise gerecht… dieses Buch ist so anderes als jedes Buch, was ich je gelesen habe, und tatsächlich auch ganz anders, als ich es vom Lyx Verlag erwartet hätte!
Im Kern ist die Geschichte eine moderne Version von Cinderella: nach dem Tod ihres Vaters plagt sich die 18-jährige Estella mit ihrer bösen Stiefmutter herum. Sie wird von ihr vernachlässigt und eingesperrt. Ihre einzige Hoffnung ist der baldige Schulabschluss, denn erst dann bekommt sie das Erbe ihres Vaters ausgehändigt und kann endlich weg aus dem gruseligen Haus an der Küste Irlands.
Diese altbekannte Geschichte paart L.H. Cosway mit einer gothischen („gothic“) Atmosphäre, wie man sie z.B. aus Charlotte Brontës Jane Eyre kennt. Viele Landschaftsbeschreibungen, die einen mit auf die Klippen nehmen. Ich war so gefesselt von dem Buch, dass ich es kaum aus den Händen legen konnte.
Das Buch behandelt Themen wie Religion und Spiritualität, und ich fand es wirklich spannend, über Estellas Weg mit ihrem Glauben zu lesen. Auch wenn man selbst nicht gläubig ist, wird man Estellas Entscheidungen durch ihren Glauben sicherlich nachvollziehen und nachfühlen können, weil es so feinfühlig beschrieben wird.
Der Schreibstil. Wow. Wie bereits gesagt, lässt das Buch sich sehr gut und schnell lesen. Und die schaurige Atmosphäre kommt perfekt rüber; ich hatte mehrmals Gänsehaut! Es gibt ein paar Stellen, an denen man meinen könnte, dass Geister ihr Unwesen treiben… aufgeklärt wird das nicht und das macht die mysteriöse Atmosphäre hier so gut!
Vielleicht kennt hier irgendwer den Film (oder das Musical) „Heathers/ Lethal Attraction“ – irgendwie hat mich die Geschichte, besonders aber Noah, total daran erinnert. Dieses gruselig-böse gepaart mit dem charmant-attraktiven ist einfach eine Bomben-Kombi (ein Witz für alle, die Heathers kennen).
Ein Charakter, von dem ich gerne mehr gelesen hätte, war Schwester Dolores. Die war für mich einfach der beste Nebencharakter!
Es gab viele erschreckende und schockierende Offenbarungen, von denen ich keine habe kommen sehen! Insgesamt war das Buch fast perfekt.
Ich sage fast, denn eine Sache hat mich doch etwas gestört: das Ende. Das Buch baut so viel Spannung auf und Estella stärkt ihre Meinung bezüglich des Buches immer weiter, und dann kommt plötzlich Noah daher und ihre Entscheidung ändert sich komplett spontan. Ich hätte mir da mehr "Widerstand" von Estella gewünscht, weil so wirkte es etwas out-of-character.
Nichtsdestotrotz möchte ich das Buch allen empfehlen. Ich habe kein anderes New Adult Buch gelesen, dass so ist wie Beyond the Sea und kann es deshalb allen NA-Fans ans Herz legen.
Ich gebe 4,5 von 5 Sternen.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a book by the author and now I feel like I’ve lost so much all this time.
I loved everything in this story. The secrets, the banter and that ending! I didn’t expect that!
Highly recommend it for a few great hours of reading pleasure.

Starting this book, I wasn't sure it was for me. I thought it might be too dark and twisty. But after the first couple of chapters I was hooked. The heroine, Estella was easy to relate to and had me completely entranced, and the hero, Noah was intriguing. Now don't get me wrong this book was NOT sunshine and happiness, it was very dark and twisty, but just enough to make a really compelling, believable story. It was one of those books that had you routing for the H and h, even being complete opposites they were just so well suited and you wanted them to triumph.
There is also a whole subplot that mixes in just the right amount of supernatural to make it a really compelling story. I loved Estella and Noah's love story, but I was obsessed with Noah's past and how Estella fit into it. It was beautifully written and I am here for it.
TL;DR: Read this book, you wont be sorry!
