(3.5 stars) When I heard Tia Louise was renaming the books in this series and rolling out with some hot new covers, I figured now was the time to pick them up- nothing like a new cover to reignite fan fervor and pull in new readers to this fun modern day take on a fairy tale.

This was a unique story for me in terms of the romance genre because it is really is the story of TWO couples - two thieving sisters (Zee and Ava) who are scraping to get by and two alpha badboy princes (Rowan and Cal). Zee is the caretaker- always protecting Ava, which is why she’s trying to play prince Rowan by getting him to fall for her- only issue is that Rowan wants Ava and will do anything to have her, and Prince Rowan’s brother Cal and Zee are lusting after each other, which is a major wrench in her plans. What a fun twist- our leads fall for the wrong sibling!

The narrative structure was interesting, and I’m not sure it worked for me. We have two POVs, but the two POVs are from two different couplings- told by Zee and Rowan. I love the interesting approach- it is different from anything I’ve read, but with two couples in one book and only understanding ½ of each couple's story, I just felt like we didn’t get the full story with either nor really feel the connection and chemistry (it felt more physical). I don’t think we needed all 4 POVs, but I need more feeling/experiencing to get Ava and Cal. I just didn’t know where or who to focus on- I’m selfish, and I want to fully experience my romance- and here I felt like the interesting POV structure just left me missing out. With two couples and a lot of action, it is just a lot to pack in one book. Even so, it took longer to get the story started for me- the beginning moving very slow- lots of exposition, trying to wrap our brains around many characters all at once. And, the emotional connections never fully “click” for me- the lusty/steam was definitely here- just not quite enough emotion. Lots of insta-love and steamy times, though- and I love some good dirty talking, bossy princes.

The pace really picked up at the end with lots of suspense and action- the pace triples, just a lot going on! This is also not a standalone/HEA- the stories are not done, both couples are not clearly resolved, and we have a cliffhanger! Overall, not my favorite of Tia’s, but I appreciate her risk taking in the narrative structure, and the premise is a fun and interesting one- just didn’t quite click for me. But, if you like a good fairy tale reinvention, dig the royal trope, or are looking for some dirty talking royals, this is worth the read.

With THE PRINCE & THE PLAYER, you get two love stories in one. Zelda and Ava live life con to con, struggling since teen-hood in order to provide both food and shelter for themselves. Having perfected their craft, neither suspected they'd be made, but the one who makes them has a new con for them: infiltrate into the royal court and have Zelda become the love interest for Prince Rowan. But things don't go as planned when both sisters find themselves falling for the wrong brother, and the stakes become even higher when neither can keep up their charade for much longer to both the world and with one another.

I fully enjoyed the intrigue and dramatic suspense into Ava and Zelda's plan. It kept your heart pounding, never knowing if or when someone would slip up, or close calls would be had. And getting the two romances also feels like a bonus because each couple is very different, but also incredibly irresistible because of how sinful it is. I think my only thing on the book is that I would have preferred POVs into the other two siblings, as we only got half of the story. I think because of that I didn't connect as much as I would have loved to, but I was still able to totally follow along and enjoy the story. It's rich, it's sexy, and it's filled with secrets, THE PRINCE & THE PLAYER will lead you down a royally fun road where you'll be begging for more.

First off I do want to say thank you to Tia Louise for sending me a copy for an honest review. And let me tell you this was definitely a book of players and princes to remember!

WOWZA! I mean that's really all I can say! This novel has taken a new height to finding your dream prince! I mean I'm sure almost every girl has imagined at one point in time that they would find a handsome prince like in Cinderella (or really any other fairy tale) to sweep you off your feet and live your life in pure happiness. Alright I'm getting side tracked, because clearly things aren't as they crack up to be for Zee and Ava.

Alright! So In this novel, you go from both Zee and the Prince Rowan. Rowan is also about to be a future king, so there is a little more authority with him than his brother Cal who is also a prince. TWO PRINCES!! #fangirloverload. So the story is from both perspectives, although I feel like it definitely could have been perspectives from all four characters, I am glad it only stayed with two.

Alright, I can't really say much about this, because I would spoil it, so all I'm going to say is that what happened, I never would have expected to happen in the end, and I was so completely shocked I almost threw my tablet across the room!

Overall this book was amazing! I found it to be fast paced, catches you on the edge of your seat. That cliffhanger IS SO REAL! You really understand the strength that Zee really has along the way, and of course get all caught up in what she is doing, that sometimes I found myself yelling at her to just tell them what's going on. A roller-coaster ride of emotions, and definitely a lot of love, passion, and *steam*! THE FEELS ARE REAL when it comes to these relationships! I honestly felt like I was there, and at some points I really wish that there was like a cousin prince to show up...I would be perfectly okay with that! I can't wait to read and find out what happens in book two! This is definitely a series you will want to check out! I mean who doesn't want to read about falling in love with a Prince?

Zelda, the con-woman and her little sister Ava found themselves in quite the predicament when they were outed during a con and had to take on an even bigger one to survive unscathed. Make the crown prince fall in love with you, betray his trust and break his heart. Easy peasy, right? Wrong! So wrong!

I thought this story was not only quite comical but also extremely sweet and sultry! There was the right balance of romance, suspense, and drama. I thought I’d love the main hero Rowan, but it was his brother Cal who stole my heart!!! Both royal men were spectacular in their own ways and brought something different to the story.

They were equally matched with Zelda and Ava. Both women were spunky and sweet, and wise beyond their years due to their traumatic upbringing. I loved Zelda’s blunt demeanor and Ava’s innocent disposition. They were inseparable and always looked out for one another. It was completely endearing, the close relationship these sisters shared.

I thought the story line was a little crazy but it made for a fun read. I just wished more time was spent on the couples and less on the ins and outs of Royal life and what the future king was trying to accomplish. The racing hobby was entirely odd for the hero and seemed out of place.

I didn’t know this book would end in a cliffhanger, but I liked where it left off and can’t wait to read the next book.

I listened to this book on audio, which proved to be more difficult than I expected due to the narrators’ accents. I felt like I would have enjoyed the story more if I’d read it physically due to the differences in phrasing between the States and the fictitious country the heroes were from. A bit was lost in translation.

Great modern royal romance with a twist. This story is amazing Tia Louise did an excellent twist from what I thought the story would be about making it way more entertaining. I listened to the audiobook and Joel Froomkin and Natalie Duke did a terrific job, Joel accent was a good choice and great voice change for Rowan and Cal, I also enjoyed how Natalie portrayed Zee and Ava, it was good paced, the voices went in pair with the emotions and what was happening in the story making it interesting. Can't wait to dig into the next one.
