A lovely beach story with good ASL illustrations. Kudos to the illustrator. I wish the author would stop using lowercase deaf, it's uppercase Deaf when talking about people who speak in ASL and identify as culturally Deaf.

really quick interesting look at the significance of hands in modern era, particularly in terms of psychological (and psychosexual) development, desire/motivation, agency/manipulation, identity, and communication. 3 starts because i read for an essay - working to a deadline means i can't sit with the ideas as long as i would like (and also not all of it was relevant!) but v enjoyable nonetheless

I appreciated the usage of ASL, as it still doesn't get enough recognition. The story, however, was uneventful, and therefore it felt more like the flipping of pages than the reading of a story. Nice to have if you want to show off some ASL vocabulary though and its use.

The story of a mother and a daughter spending a lovely day at the sunny beach. They are dancing and swimming, running and playing. All the while, they are communicating with their hands using American Sign Language. The loving communication between mother and daughter is heartwarming and precious, and readers can learn a little bit of signing along the way.

Poetic nature.
ASL in the margins to help readers learn some simple signs.
The story does not focus on disability.
Shares language with readers.
Light and loving words on each page.
