Going through someone's recommendations on mysteries and came across this book.
Fast read which at times is jarring in the use of slurs though probably accurate.
Not very likable characters by an large so probably won't continue with the series but don't regret reading it either.

The first victim was the blind violinist, shot twice in the face outside the restaurant where he worked. It wasn't until the omelette lady was discovered, killed in the same way with the same weapon, less than twenty-four hours later, that the detectives of the 87th Precinct really began to take notice. But as the bodies pile up, Carella and the boys seem to be always one step behind the killer...

This was my first 87th Precinct novel, and I'm only wondering what took me so long to pick one up. Fiddlers is the epitome of the police procedural. Every detail of police work is true to life. McBain's prose is spare and propulsive. He draws his characters with a few strokes of the brush. He was a genius of American crime fiction.

I had to read this for class, got through it in a day. Good story, got me interested to read more police precinct novels! Would recommend :)

This book dove straight into the crime which surprised me. The writing style wasn't how I usually find crime novels but I enjoyed it's quick dialogue and pacing. I also liked how they showed red herrings in the investigation instead of the detectives constantly being right. I would read more of McBain's books.
