This series of 10 stories focus on a "private inquiry agent" named John Dorn. Dorn is a mess, as most Noir detectives tend to be. He drinks too much, is sometimes homeless, living in his office, and loses both his drivers license and investigators license at some point in these stories. He is very smart, and never satisfied with cases that seem too pat. He works in Melbourne and the stories provide satisfying detail of Australian life and culture. This book would probably appeal most to fans of Noir detectives. It is a beautiful Europa edition which book lovers enjoy.
