This feels like something families vacationing in New England would buy as a souvenir.

Picture book.  This book was an impressive feat of writing--no complete sentences, just strings of words all starting with the letter "s."  A young girl, her mother, and her doll head out for a wintry stroll on the beach.  As the illustration shows a flock of seagulls taking flight, the text reads "Spectacular. Sparkling. Smile Super!"  As a surprise wave takes her doll from her hands, the girl gets a bit wetter than planned from the rescue, resulting in a shower and snuggly story upon arriving home.  The illustrations are great, especially the emotions of the girl.  A mellow, cozy read that counters the expectation of a sun-filled summer day at the beach.  This would be fun to use for a writing exercise with each writer choosing a letter for their words and seeing if they could tell a story in this manner.

First off, this book shows a beach in winter.  Yes beaches can be cold.  They are not all hot sand and swimsuits.  Besides that this book is uni que because the story is told in single words that hitch rides with each other. It’s a step above a wordless picture book.  The words interpret the picture instead of the other way around.  And I also love that all the words start with the letter S.  Check it out.  It’s a unique read that would be very fun for reading aloud.
