Still interesting, but it's a bit messier than its predecessor, and that also makes the prose somewhat less swinging.

I need to read it again, it's one of those you get more out of on second or third reading. But it was pretty wild. I've heard that some people who didn't get it actually got angry about it.

Not bad, but I liked Light better. The writing is great but I felt kind of ungrounded for most of it. Maybe it’s me, but I never really felt like I knew exactly what was at stake. The world he’s created, though, man I love it. Kind of like Fifth Element.

I struggled to get into this. Possibly because I only had short periods of reading time. Halfway through I found myself on a long train journey and read the second half in one sitting. I enjoyed this rather more and, as often with M. John Harrison, found the prose warping my thought processes.

Stalker themes were great, not as compelling as Light, but still great

Not as good as the [b:first installment|17735|Light (Empty Space Trilogy #1)|M. John Harrison|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1389700041s/17735.jpg|295250] in the series, nor was the narration as good as Julian Elfer's wonderful performance of Light.
