Really enjoyed Miles Franklin's writings.

She was an intelligent woman, who railed against the lack of gender equality. She mentions pay discrepancies - the female State Librarian was paid less than her male subordinates: "I unsophisticatedly asked why he was paid more. 'Oh,' she [Ida Leeson] said airily, 'he has the genital organs of the male; they're not used in library work but men are paid more for having them.' "

She led a fascinating and active life, but had many difficulties when she returned to Australia in 1932 after more than 20 years abroad. The diary excerpts here cover this period from 1932 untill the start of 1954.

This book is an excellent insight into Miles' life.
